How to Get to Your Bora Bora Honeymoon

Bora Bora is an island that is a part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia. It is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Northwest of New Zealand. From the US, it requires an eight-and-a-half-hour flight from LAX to Tahiti.

From Australia, you will likely fly first to Auckland, NZ, and then continue on to Tahiti on a five-hour flight. Once you have arrived in Tahiti, you fly to Bora Bora on a 50-minute flight on a propeller plane.

Best Time of Year for a Bora Bora Honeymoon

No matter what time of year you visit Bora Bora for your honeymoon, you’ll enjoy warm weather all around. Summer is the wet season, from November through March, and winter is the dry season. Believe it or not, many travelers prefer winter when you’ll enjoy temperatures around 26°C.

Bora Bora Honeymoon: What to Pack

Like most tropical honeymoon destinations, packing for a trip to Bora Bora requires a little planning. With warmer temperatures, you’ll want to make sure your daily outfit options are breathable and lightweight.

But the most important packing essentials are swimsuits, coverups, sunscreen, and a rash guard. You’ll be around a lot of water, so you’ll want to make sure you’re fully prepared. Even if you aren’t looking to get adventurous with snorkeling or water sports, you’ll still want to be comfortable – and protected – on the beach.

Bora Bora Honeymoon Resorts and Hotels

Bora Bora resorts excel in creating romantic experiences, and the staff is all about making your stay memorable for life. From French champagne waiting in your room on arrival, a lunch table set on the beach to welcome the beautiful couple or an exotic spa where you can pamper yourself, each day is a little gift.

To give you an idea of the price, I looked for a 5-night stay in May for an over-the-water bungalow to give you an idea of how they compare.

I definitely recommend checking out the overwater bungalows. They are a secluded haven (in a mosquito-free zone!), perfect for balmy evenings and lots of love. Most bungalows feature a private deck too that gives you direct access to the blue lagoon. It’s luxurious, it’s relaxing, it’s an out-of-this-world experience. I almost cried as I was leaving!

St. Regis Bora Bora Resort

St Regis Bora Bora Honeymoon Resort

We stayed at The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, which is perfect for an intimate escape! Located on its own private island, this must be the most spectacular place to honeymoon; the private butler service can organize almost anything – from free dinner on the beach under emerald green palms and your feet in fine, powdery sand, overlooking the inspiring views of Mount Otemanu to making sure you are reminded in time you’ve got a snorkeling or scuba diving lesson.

The service is so amazing that you can even indulge in delightful fantasies like bathing in a tub with fresh flowers floating on the water or having your bed dressed in a profusion of perfumed Polynesian flowers. No words! The overwater bungalows can include an outdoor shower and plunge pool.

Bora Bora Honeymoon: Things to Do

Bora Bora is known for its relaxing atmosphere, but you can find plenty of activities to enjoy while honeymooning in paradise. Consider looking into the activities and excursions your resort offers before making any definite plans.

Relax at the Spa

Indulge at the spa. Open-air Bora Bora spas are a sensory delight on another level! Your loved one and you will go crazy with enjoyment and you’ll probably never want to leave (just like we didn’t!).

Bora Bora spas offer unique services like a fresh-flower bath for two, body wrap in fresh banana tree leaves, fresh fruit and plants mask, body washes with vanilla, body scrub with sand and rice, grated coconuts or sea salt (my hubby loved this one!), massage with heated stones, river baths, rain showers, and deep ocean-water treatments. You can’t really tell which one’s the best – because they’re all phenomenal!

Get Some Adventure – Water Sports and Excursions

When you get tired of all the indulgence (if that’s even possible) and want to kick up the adrenaline, Bora Bora’s got it! From jet skiing, WaveRunner adventures, snorkeling, diving, turtle tours, whale watching, helmet diving, lagoon cruises, marine biologist tours, sailing, shark and ray feeding, stand-up paddleboarding, submarine tours, to underwater scooters, and plenty of other amazing stuff, you will get a chance to experience a different perspective on the island together. Everything about it is spectacular, and that’s that.

I recommend you take full advantage of sea life and water by feeding and swimming with sharks, kayaking, snorkeling, and taking a boat tour to make your honeymoon full of adventure. I have heard some travelers say Bora Bora can be boring, but that is only if you don’t want to look for something to do!

Bora Bora Honeymoon Cost-Saving Tips

Now, Bora Bora is known for being expensive and the place celebrities like to honeymoon, however, there are ways to save. First, pick one of the resorts that fit your honeymoon budget. Second, as you plan your honeymoon, look into credit cards with good travel rewards. Booking your honeymoon will likely reach the thresholds for sign-up bonuses and get you points for your next trip.

Another thing you can do to save some cost is bring your own alcohol. At most of the resorts, buying a drink can cost you a lot and add up quickly! Instead of only buying drinks, buy some alcohol from the duty-free stores at the airport on your way. Depending on how much you drink, it could save you a lot!

Bora Bora Honeymoon lounge

Also, try to eat outside of the resort while you are there. Depending on which resort you go to, this may not be convenient, but it can save you money and give you some variety.

We really think Bora Bora is a place worth going on your honeymoon or destination wedding, there are plenty of resorts to choose from at different price ranges!

Cost of a Bora Bora Honeymoon

The cost of a trip to Bora Bora can vary greatly based on the travel choices you make. Accommodations in Bora Bora start at $500 a night and go up from there. Overwater bungalows start at $800 a night but are often over $1000 a night in Bora Bora.

If you would like to spend time in an overwater bungalow but do not have the budget for it, resorts at nearby islands can be much more affordable. Many honeymooners split their time between multiple islands including Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora.

Bora Bora Honeymoon Alternatives

Bora Bora is one of the most expensive honeymoon destination in the world and there are no cheap accommodations. There are several ways to save money without sacrificing anything during your trip.

Go to a different island to save a significant amount on accommodations. A few resorts that provide the same 5-star experience at a lower price are Le Taha’a by Pearl Resorts, Ninamu Resort, Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort, and several resorts in Moorea. None of these resorts are cheap but they are much more affordable than the Bora Bora options.

There are also tons of options for beautiful tropical getaways throughout the world that are also more affordable with beautiful overwater bungalows like KC Resort & Overwater Villas in Thailand, Pulo Cinta Eco Resort in Indonesia, and Koro Sun Resort in Fiji.

Bora Bora is an expensive honeymoon destination, but it offers a tropical paradise unlike any other place. If you’re looking for an exclusive overwater bungalow surrounded by a lush, beautiful landscape, then Bora Bora is the place for you. Start your new life as a married couple with a little relaxation and beauty!
