A Couples Getaway to Georgetown, Texas

You know the feeling of being in an unfamiliar town and everything seems so different than what you are used to?  Sometimes it only takes a short drive to feel that for us. Last weekend we decided to go to Georgetown, an hour away from south Austin where we live. We checked into the Sheraton Georgetown Texas Friday night. The lobby is wide and spacious with large glass windows letting the natural light in and allowing us to notice the great view outside. In the lobby, there are plenty of comfy seating areas and Jack’s Lounge with live music Thursdays and...

Horseback Riding on Oregon’s Pacific Coast

For the past week, we have been traveling while spending time with family.  We spent some time in Salt Lake City with my family for my sister’s wedding then made our way to the Oregon coast to spend time with Michelle’s family.  Before coming we wanted to set apart some time to do one of the things we love to do when we travel, go horseback riding. I found the Green Acres online as a place near Lincoln City where we were staying and they invited us along for a 1-hour beach ride to see what they are all...

Dinner For Two At The Grand Lux Cafe

Have you heard of the new restaurant concept from The Cheesecake Factory? I saw a sign for the Grand Lux Cafe when I was at The Domain a few weeks go and was invited for a complimentary dinner last week to check the place out along with their newly added menu items. With a name like the Grand Lux Cafe, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Grand Lux gave the impression that it would be fancy and elegant. Cafe makes me think of casual and in reality, it sits somewhere in the middle. When compared to the Cheesecake Factory,...

Our Stay At Ballinalacken Castle House Hotel

Our last night in Ireland, we had the pleasure of staying at the Ballinalacken Castle Country House Hotel.  It was our most enjoyable stay of our trip.  After a day exploring Doolin and going on a cruise to the Aran Islands and by the Cliffs of Moher, we made our way to the guest house, just 2 miles from town. We were warmly greeted by Cecilia and checked into our rooms.  The guest house, situated next to the Ballinalacken castle ruins was built in the early 1800’s by the O’Briens who then owned the land and castle as a place to live....

Our Visit to the Cliffs of Moher & Aran Islands

During our trip to Ireland, we stayed 2 nights in Doolin, the city closest to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.  Not only does the city provide a place to stay on your way to see the cliffs, but has plenty to offer on its own. See The Cliffs Of Moher From Above Seeing the cliffs from about is easy and requires and simple drive to the visitor center.  There is a parking lot where you pay per person as you enter. The cliffs are only a short walk from the parking lot.  There is a visitor center, restaurant,...

Horseback Riding On The Dingle Peninsula

During our time in Ireland, two areas really stood out as our favorites, Doolin and Dingle.  While in Dingle we were able to drive The Slea Head Drive and Connors Pass, go kayaking and fit in a horseback ride. We went horseback riding with Dingle Horseback Riding.  They have several excursions to choose from for both beginner and advanced riders.  Advanced riders can go for beach rides lasting around 4 hours that includes a good amount of cantering.    Upon arriving at the stables, we put on boots and helmets and met our horses, which they had already picked...

Our Kayaking Adventure In Dingle Ireland

Today is the last day before we leave Ireland. I really can’t complain or seem too sad since we are moving onto Spain, but as I sit here at the Ballinalacken Castle overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with the outline of the Cliffs of Moher in the distance, I can’t help but have a hint of sadness thinking of our approaching departure. Looking back on our time in Ireland, I wanted to share the most memorable experience. While pretty much everything was enjoyable, kayaking in Dingle was exhilarating and unforgettable. Disclosure:  Our kayaking adventure with Adventure Ireland was complementary but that does...

Loma de Vida Spa Experience

Last weekend, one of the highlights of our stay at La Cantera Resort & Spa was our time spent at the Loma de Vida Spa. The first thing we noticed was that the spa feels separate from the rest of the resort while still being so close. Resort spas often feel like they are just another area of an hotel, but to get to Loma de Vida you leave the hotel and walk through a garden and under the road.  There were butterflies and native plants along the path and you could hear water splashing and calming music in...

Signature Restaurant by Andrew Weissman Review

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of having lunch at Signature by Chef Andrew Weissman located at the La Cantera Resort & Spa which opened just last month. As we walked in to the restaurant we were met with a familiar smell similar to a campfire and roasting marshmallows. I believe it was coming from something being caramelized in the wood burning oven. I was pleasantly surprised to see Chef Weissman front and center in the kitchen as we arrived and learned he is very hands on and often is cooking along side his culinary team which are all...

A Winter Trip to La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio

Disclaimer: We would like to thank La Cantera Resort & Spa for hosting us during our night in San Antonio.  While we were not charged for our stay, the opinions in this post are our own. This past weekend, we made the quick drive down to San Antonio from Austin to stay at the La Cantera Resort & Spa. It was a blaring reminder of why I love Texas winters and why a couples weekend trip, during the sometimes chaotic holiday season, is a Christmas gift you should give yourselves.  The time away from the normal hustle along with the...
