Our Stay At the Royal Lahaina Resort

In November of 2019, we spent a week in Maui and stayed 4 nights of our stay at the Royal Lahaina Resort. The resort attracts a variety of visitors and has a reasonable price range starting around $239.  One thing that is very attractive is that there is no resort fee to worry about being added to the bill.

Overall, we found the resort to be well priced and a great option for a honeymoon in Hawaii. The employees were friendly, the rooms were nice and the views were incredible. We recommend paying a little extra for the oceanfront views.

Location

The resort is situated in a way that allows for great ocean or partial ocean views out of three sides of the resort. It is situated on the Kaanapali Beach on the West side of Maui, one of Maui’s most famous stretches of sand that provide a stunning view of neighboring islands Molokai and Lanai. The area of beach in front of the Royal Lahaina Resort is not very busy at all.  We only saw other guests on the beach while we were there.

Rooms

There are several options to choose between when booking your stay at Royal Lahaina.  Most rooms are similar and have a price difference based on the view.  We stayed in a one-bedroom Lanai Suite, named because it is on the side of the building that faces the Lanai Island nearby and included a living room, bedroom and oversized bathroom with a soaking tub.

All rooms include a mini-fridge,  Kona coffee, private lanai, free wifi, Egyptian cotton linens, and plush feathertop mattresses.

In addition to the rooms in the 12-story Lahaina Kai Tower, there are also one and two-story cottages available that will make Maui feel like home.

Activities

When it comes to activities, the Royal Lahaina has plenty to do on-site or nearby. There are three pools, a full spa, a pro Tennis ranch, beach rentals and daily classes like lei making or ukelele classes.

Nearby you can find pretty much any typical activities you would expect on Maui including Zip Lines, sunset sailing, snorkeling excursions to name a few.

On-Site Luau

Conveniently located on the resort is The Myths of Maui Luau where you received a traditional Aloha shell lei greeting, a traditional whole roasted pig cooked in an imu, all you can eat Hawaiian buffet and production of song dance and fire!

Daily Activities

Every day you can enjoy the 3 pools or beaches for relaxation and swimming. There are additional scheduled activities that are posted as well. When we were at the resort there was morning yoga on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. You could do crafts link Lauhala bracelet weaving, Puka shell necklace making, flower lei making and Ti leaf making on select days.

There were also Ukelele classes, hula lessons and coconut demonstrations throughout the week. You can also rent snorkeling equipment, stand up paddleboards or kayaks to enjoy in the water.

Dining

At the resort, you can dine at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant & Lounge. We ate dinner here one night and really enjoy it. In the evening there is a torch lighting ceremony, a hula dancer and live music that together with the crashing ocean waves make for a perfect atmosphere.

The appetizers or “Pupus” like the spicy ahi poke and lobster pops were the highlights of our meal and I really enjoyed the Ka’anapali Mixed plate, which was basically a Hawaiian luau meal.

Room service is also available which is a very attractive option as a way to enjoy the amazing ocean views. We ordered breakfast in bed one morning and can recommend the Hawaiian Sweet Bread Sandwich.

In addition to the restaurant, there is a beach bar that is especially popular around happy hour and the Royal Scoop, a perfect place for an ice cream cone for kids and adults alike.

Where to Eat Near The Resort

Within a short distance are numerous other resorts, shopping centers and restaurants that make it easy to find anything you may need. Just a few miles north of south of the resort will take you to several large grocery stores and most types of cuisines.

We enjoyed a’a Roots Maui, Paia Fish Market at Front Street, had Thai food at a nearby food truck and picked up food from Safeway during our trip in addition to eating at the resort restaurant. You can easily get to many options depending on what you are in the mood for.
